Three-hundred and fifty days a year, your dining room is under-used and under-appreciated.
But still, you have one, because during the holidays and on other days of celebration, when we gather, we want to be in the dining room.
That's probably why, despite an overall trend toward casual spaces, more homes include dining rooms, according to housing trends tracked by the National Association of Home Builders. "The consumer wants one, even though they're not used throughout the year," says Gopal Ahluwalia, director of research for the NAHB.
