Nov. 16--SANTA FE, N.M. -- Santa Fe city councilors receptive to building a new downtown civic center fear archaeological remains, possibly buried beneath the site, may halt construction dead in its tracks.
Monday, councilors on the Public Works Committee agreed they didn't want to give the green light to building a new civic center only to stop work and lose millions if the site yields something substantial.
In a town serious about its history, answering the archaeological questions could mean the difference between building a new facility and scrapping plans ...
