Nov. 17--Chugai Pharmaceutical will close what is left of its San Diego-based subsidiary, Chugai Pharma USA, and relocate it to New Jersey.
The Japanese drugmaker, once a sizeable presence in the region, employed 70 at its San Diego clinical support unit, some of whom will be offered jobs in New Jersey. Last year, Chugai shut down a San Diego research facility and laid off 50 scientists.
The parent company said in a written statement that it will phase out its San Diego operation over the next few months and relocate to Bedminister, N.J., by April.
