Smoking, it seems, will be banned in public places in Wales in less than four years. This means that when Olympian athletes are doing extraordinary things in Beijing, the sports fans watching them on televisions in Welsh pubs will no longer be able to take approving drags on cigarettes.
The Public Health Bill, expected in 2005, will give Welsh politicians the power to purge smoking in workplaces.
