Medical students often change specialty preference from matriculation to graduation. While salary, lifestyle, role models, gender, personality traits, and other factors have been linked to career choice, little has been reported about predictors of change of specialty choice. Knowing how personality characteristics impact change of specialty choice can guide medical educators in the career counseling of students. We examined the relationship between personality traits and stability of specialty choice from matriculation to graduation for one medical school class.
