By far the busiest drilling and mine development project in Alaska this summer is taking place north and west of Lake Iliamna in the southwest portion of the state, a little more than 200 air miles south west of Anchorage.
Driving nearly $30 million worth of exploration work in the Iliamna area this year is the Pebble gold-copper-molybdenum prospect, currently being explored by Northern Dynasty Mines Inc., a Hunter Dickinson-managed mine development company.
