Article: United Healthcare companies to pay $2.2 million to North Carolina.

2004 NOV 22 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Two United Healthcare companies, accused of failing to promptly fix payments of claims and to doctors and hospitals, have agreed to pay penalties totaling $2.2 million.

The problems arose with medical claims for two health insurance plans marketed in North Carolina, the HMO United Healthcare of North Carolina and the company's preferred-provider organization plan, which is sold through a separate company, United HealthCare Insurance Co.

About 15% of North Carolinians with private health insurance are insured through one of the plans.
