2004 NOV 24 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- A novel Bcl-2 family gene is associated with the progression of colon cancer.
"Apoptosis is an active process regulated by a variety of genes. Recently, the molecular cloning, physical mapping and expression analysis of a novel gene of the Bcl-2 family, BCL2L12, was reported.
"Expression analysis of the BCL2L12 gene in breast cancer confirmed an association of BCL2L12 with favorable prognosis of patients," scientists writing in the journal Biological Chemistry report.
"In the present study," said K. Mathioudaki and colleagues, "the expression of the BCL2L12 gene was analyzed in colon cancer by RTPCR. ...
