Although it looks benign, Katla volcano should have erupted in 1988. Sixteen years later, the local villagers are still waiting nervously.
This piece of information would not normally cause too much alarm. However, for 15 minutes I waited anxiously at the summit, with just a snowmobile as my getaway, while our guide explained how volcanoes erupt.
