It was 30 years ago tomorrow. Ian Cropper was on the night shift, minding the switchboard at the Birmingham Post & Mail. The next morning's headlines had still to be written. Soon after 8.10pm he received a call from a man on a public telephone. 'The code word is Double X,' said the voice in an Irish accent. 'There is a bomb planted in the Rotunda and there is a bomb in New Street at the tax office.'
