Eight years ago, Mark Saltzman of Entertainment Music Marketing placed a sizable bet on the future of the U.S. karaoke market. Having witnessed the nearly universal popularity of the sing-along machines first-hand in Japan, he asked "Why can't the popularity of karaoke be duplicated in the U.S.?" Shortly after his first shipment of machines arrived at his Long Island warehouse, though, he realized that karaoke was not going to be an overnight sensation.
