* The Waterdance is a semiautobiographical film written and codirected (with Michael Steinberg) by Neal Jimenez, scenarist of the splendid River's Edge and co-scenarist of the mindless Something for the Boys. Jimenez broke his neck in a hiking accident and is now a paraplegic; one of the film's principals, Joel Garcia, is a Hispanic novelist hospitalized under similar circumstances. He has a married girlfriend, Anna, whom he wants to detach from her husband, and two zestful ward mates, the racist biker Bloss and the black ladies' man and bon vivant Raymond.
