Amidst increasing threats on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's life, a majority of Israeli Knesset members recently voted in favor of withdrawing from the Gaza Strip. This vote does not, however, suggest that Mr. Sharon will be able to implement his plan, since the forces he is up against are extremely powerful.
Those favoring the pullout from Gaza support the state of Israel, while those opposing the pullout support the vision of a Greater Israel. The first group believes that with Gaza, Israel will be destroyed; the second believes that without it, Israel will be destroyed. Ironically, many of those who are now opposing Mr. Sharon in the name of a Greater Israel ...
