Article: Japanese law schools urge increase in lawyers.

Nov. 20--TOKYO -- New law schools that opened this spring were upset by the Justice Ministry's preliminary guideline that limits the number of graduates passing the new bar exam to the top 34 percent for the 2006 academic year and about the top 20 percent in succeeding years.

With the new law schools meant to provide practical education for future judges, prosecutors and lawyers rather than improving students' techniques for passing the bar exam, the ratio of successful applicants will hold the key to the future of the new legal training program.
