Nov. 23--News of the recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy of model-train maker Lionel LLC served as a reminder that Lionel and many other famous toy names once had a Toledo-area manufacturing presence.
In fact, you might call the toy business "the industry that got away." At one time, a dozen manufacturers of toys, games, and hobby products employed thousands of workers in northwest Ohio.
Many of the trade names can't be found in stores today, but collectors can find them in antique shops all around the country and on eBay and other Internet shopping sites.
