ENGINEERS have been forced to change construction plans for a park and ride scheme in Wirral after discovering a rare plant.
Special arrangements had to be made after conservationists found the rare Mackay's horsetail growing on the site in Carr Lane, Hoylake.
Construction workers have now fenced off the area and are working their design around it to preserve the horsetail.
Hilary Ash, from Wirral Wildlife, said: ``This is a rare hybrid plant which is confined to Wirral. There are some examples at the Royal Liverpool golf course, Red Rocks and on Wallasey golf course.
