The term "DNC" has been the source of much confusion over the last few years. There are actually two similar, but distinctly different, uses for this term, The older and more common usage is direct numerical control. The newer, less recognized meaning is distributed numerical control. Even within each meaning, there are differing opinions on what DNC should do and different levels of complexity. We will explore the differences of these related terms. This month we will address DISTRIBUTED numerical control. Next month we will discuss DIRECT numerical control.
