As the nation's elderly population continues to grow, the already healthy nursing home sector is expected to prosper.
The Census Bureau predicts that the number of people in the above-age-75 and above-age-85 segments of the population will increase by 26 percent and 50 percent, respectively, by the end of the decade.
Increasing numbers of patients are entering nursing homes for rehabilitation and recuperation.
Beverly Enterprises Inc. of Fort Smith, the largest nursing home operator in the country, has seen the average patient length of stay decrease from 30 months to 15 months.
