The nation's largest ports and harbors, including the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors, have recently become the focus of environmental regulations. Attention has especially been directed to effluent discharges along the storm drains of major port cities. Everything from human and animal waste to toxic chemicals, pesticides and heavy metals finds it way into our waterways through channels and storm drains, and finally out to sea. Unfortunately, out of sight does not necessarily mean out of trouble.
