Nov. 26--The travel guide Richard Norris picked up in his hometown of Bristol, England, described Huntington Beach (aka Surf City) as a "kind of chilled-out place full of surfers."

The 26-year-old Brit and his buddy Stuart Humphreys made sure they added this coastal stop to their itinerary. The waves were smaller than they expected and the beach more expansive, but, hey, "this is California," said Norris, who stopped halfway down the pier to snap photos of the sparkling ocean on a virtually cloudless yet cool Tuesday.
