A handful of capital punishment opponents braved the drizzle and falling temperatures Thursday afternoon in Columbus Circle as part of the regular monthly vigil against the death penalty.
While the five protesters were fewer than the 16 who turned out under sunny skies last Thanksgiving, this has been a good year for opponents of the death penalty in New York.
The state's highest court, the Court of Appeals in Albany, declared a key provision of the 1995 capital punishment law unconstitutional in June. State lawmakers have not rushed in to fix the legislation as some thought might happen.
