Harvey R. Chaplin's northwest Miami-Dade County office is a memorabilia museum starring Charlie Chaplin. Photographs, statues and other artifacts of the silent film star spill out from every available space. But this Chaplin is no relation to the "Little Tramp," although his life has had its twists and comic turns.

Harvey Chaplin was born in 1929 in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn and educated in New York public schools. His mother sold jewelry; his father made pleats in the city's garment district. While in high school, Chaplin went to work in the mailroom of Schenley Industries, a distiller of spirits. It was a modest start to a long and fruitful career.
