LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- The recent Fluvirin contamination problem that led to a significant shortage of the vaccine in the U.S. may lead to more research on vaccines, according to a Genetic Engineering News (GEN) website poll (www.genengnews.com). Three-hundred-and-twelve individuals answered the poll, the results of which appear on page 1 of the November 15 issue of GEN.

The readers responded to the question "Will the Fluvirin debacle stimulate more R&D on all types of vaccines by biotech and pharmaceutical companies?" The results: 218 (70%) said "yes" and 94 (30%) replied "no."
