Nov. 28--CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Wyoming ranks seventh highest in the nation for the amount of money it gets per capita from the U.S. government.

The state gets about $8,425 per resident in federal funds, compared to a national average of about $6,850, a report from the U.S. Census Bureau says.

"And we're doggone glad about it," said Gov. Dave Freudenthal. Freudenthal said he wasn't sure the extra money was worth the difficulty of working with the federal government.

Freudenthal and other state officials say Wyoming's higher level of funding is due to the large amount of state land owned by the federal government.
