In 1984 a contestant on the television game show Press Your Luck stunned the audience and seemingly defied the laws of probability by winning more than thirty consecutive rounds of what appeared to be a random electronic version of roulette. Of course, there was no luck in it at all; the clever contestant had simply observed that the game board's flashing lights followed a few simple patterns.
