On September 18, 2004, His Excellency, Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Thailand's Minister for Foreign Affairs, was the keynote speaker at the Oriental Mandarin Hotel, in Washington D.C., where he reminded the U.S. political and economic audience that Thailand and the U.S. has shared political and economic cooperation since the Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed in 1833. This is the only treaty that Thailand has entered under which it grants national treatment to U.S. citizens living or conducting business in Thailand.
