LOS ANGELES _ Actor John D. Barrymore, part of the Barrymore acting dynasty and father of Drew Barrymore, died Monday at the age of 72.
The troubled actor died in Los Angeles, report news sources. No further information was released about the cause of death.
"He was a cool cat. Please smile when you think of him," says daughter Drew Barrymore in a statement. The forgiving comment is at odds with the actress' rocky relationship with her father, with whom she cut off all ties in 2001 after experiencing years of ill treatment.
