Introduction
The incidence of type 1 diabetes has been increasing at an average rate of 3.2% per year over the last decade, with the highest incidence occurring in the 0-4 year age range (Green and Patterson, 2001). Treating this age group successfully is hampered by specific problems unique to their age. NICE has recently published guidelines on insulin pump therapy (NICE, 2003). This article sets out to highlight some of the problems associated with preschool age children with diabetes, and how, in theory, an insulin pump could be of benefit.
