For two weeks, the Gophers football team has waited anxiously for the rest of the Big Ten to sort itself out and hoped the results didn't leave it in an undesirable position when bowl bids were passed out.
Faced initially with the prospect of not earning a spot in any of the seven Big Ten tie-in bowl games, the Gophers instead found themselves in the best possible situation when they awoke Sunday morning.
Thanks to Northwestern's 49-41 loss at Hawaii late Saturday night, the Gophers secured their second Music City Bowl bid in three seasons and likely will play Alabama on Dec. 31 in Nashville.
