While huddled in bed with the flu recently, plying myself with cold medicine and hot tea, I thought, How depressing. To be all alone with no one to look after me ! I missed having my mother there fluffing the pillows and bringing me soup. I thought of how nice it would be to have a husband or friend bring me the daily paper or accompany my tired, weak body to the doctor. I wondered if 1 would ever be well again and worried about taking time off from work. That just added to the strain of being sick and alone. So who says happiness is being single?
