Dec. 2--The quality of the applicants wanting to sell fruit baskets and other treats over the telephone this holiday season at Harry and David's call center in Eugene was so good that the company says it hired almost 200 more people than it had intended.
Harry and David, a division of Medford-based Bear Creek Corp., has 1,340 employees at its temporary center in Eugene, up from 1,170 last year, said Anne Bruce, Bear Creek employment manager.
The Eugene center -- now in its 17th season -- is one of three that handle the crush of calls from Harry and David catalog shoppers in the month leading up to Christmas.
