GROUND IS BROKEN FOR NEW WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT.(News)

Sanitation District No. 1 officially broke ground on its new Eastern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Alexandria on Wednesday, a project that is expected to spur development in southern Campbell County.

The $75 million project, located off Ky. 10 near the Campbell County Fairgrounds, will be the first regional treatment plant built in Northern Kentucky since 1979. It will replace an aging treatment plant on the same site that was so overtaxed that the state imposed a moratorium on new sewer hookups in the area in the late 1990s.

The new plant is expected to be operational in two years.
