Inspired by American Indian history, myth and legends, Lisa Fifield has painted a dazzling galaxy of archetypal Indian figures who embody their peoples' past with dignity, vision and gentle humor.
The 24 watercolor and gouache paintings in her new show, at Ancient Traders Gallery through Jan. 15, are something of a breakthrough for the Minnetonka artist, who has been mining this territory for more than a decade. Of mixed Indian and German ancestry, Fifield is an enrolled member of the Black Bear clan of the Oneida tribe in Wisconsin.
