Convicted on four different counts by a jury of his peers, it is mind-boggling that Lewis "Scooter" Libby has "scooted." For a political party that has always placed punishment for crimes high on its agenda, this action by President Bush is a travesty of justice. What a message this sends to the general public. It virtually shouts out the belief in two systems of justice. The average American convicted of a crime will be sent to prison to serve time, but the privileged elite who break the law will not be forced to wear prison garb.
The "commutation" of Libby's sentence raises very interesting questions.
