Dec. 5--California scientists and business boosters, who united for the first 10 months of the year to persuade voters to approve spending $3 billion on stem cell research, now are breaking rank as they foment plans for getting some of that money.
The divisiveness is in a large part about prestige. Or, in other words, who has the best "cluster."
San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area are home to two of the world's biggest concentrations of biotechnology companies and research institutions, also called biotech clusters.
