PHILADELPHIA _ Thousands of consumers who say they were wrongly billed for visits to adult Web sites will have their bills forgiven, thanks to a settlement announced Monday by the Federal Trade Commission and Alyon Technologies Inc. of Secaucus, N.J.

Alyon admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to drop claims to $17 million it had sought from consumers who challenged the charges.

The FTC says $22 million in additional billings could be dropped if consumers sign affidavits saying they are not responsible _ either because the charges were completely in error or were agreed to by minors or someone else unauthorized by the person ...
