Sunnyland Slim (Albert Luandrew) was a Chicago-based postwar powerhouse blues piano playing institution for more than 50 years. These early 1950s sides were among his first and are uniformly terrific, particularly when guitarist Robert Jr. Lockwood is in attendance. The pair captivate with their formidably prescient interplay on a bevy of Slim originals--the bruising "That Woman," a bittersweet "Leaving Your Town" and the melodically pensive instrumental "Sunnyland Special" are favorites.
