CIVIL servants who fake illness to take time off work are to face tougher disciplinary action in a crackdown on Scotland's 'sick-note culture'.
Finance Minister Tom McCabe will today launch the first review of its kind into sickness absenteeism among Scottish public sector workers, which wastes millions of taxpayers' money each year.
He has ordered officials to carry out a thorough investigation of the Scottish Executive's sick-note rates and to recommend action to cut the number of work days lost to unnecessary absenteeism.
