Dec. 7--Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson will announce as early as today that the United States will purchase influenza vaccine made for Canada and Europe as a way of easing its flu-shot shortage, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday.
"We do have optimism that additional doses of flu vaccine can be purchased," Dr. Julie Gerberding told the American Medical Association's House of Delegates, meeting at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.
She cautioned, though, that the shots would arrive under an "investigational new drugs" license from the Food and Drug Administration. The ...
