A coalition of local business organizations filed a lawsuit Friday seeking to overturn Madison's new minimum wage law.
The lawsuit filed in Dane County Circuit Court by the Main Street Coalition for Economic Growth argues that the state, not a municipality, has the authority to set the minimum wage.
"The Madison minimum wage is illegal," said James Buchen, vice president of government affairs for Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. Buchen said the 90-year practice of a state-regulated minimum wage should be maintained.
