WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) will ask the U.S. government to initiate government-to-government negotiations with Canada aimed at terminating "the substantial subsidies given to Canadian hog farmers," NPPC president Jon Caspers said Nov. 19.
NPPC petitioned for a U.S. trade safeguarding action earlier this year, asking for the imposition of countervailing and antidumping duties on imported Canadian live hogs.
