Dec. 10--OK, what is it? Or which one is it?
These are questions you hear a lot when consumers confront crossover vehicles. Confusion is no surprise, considering that the segment really did not formally exist five years ago. Today, however, the field of crossovers is the fastest-growing segment in the U.S. automotive industry.
Simply put, crossovers are vehicles that combine the characteristics of two or more motor vehicle segments. Although that often means a sport-utility vehicle body riding on a passenger car frame, it is not always the case.
