RESIDENTIAL NATURAL GAS prices are expected to be about 20 percent higher this winter than last winter, and some knee-jerking customers are sure to blame the company that sends them the painful bill.
Not so fast.
While residential, commercial, industrial and electricity-generating consumers have all warmed up to natural gas over the past five years, their increased demand isn't doing much for natural gas companies' bottom lines.
According to John Bethel, director of the Arkansas Public Service Commission's utilities division, the "primary driver" in natural gas' soaring price is a demand that has grown faster than supply, he said.
