Sports that were once considered niche activities have now attracted enough participants to have their own version of the Olympics -- the X Games. Below is a list of the 10 most popular extreme sports in 2003 for Americans, ages 6 and older. From inline skating to wall climbing to wakeboarding, these sports are big hits with consumers -- especially teens.
1. Inline Skating

This category easily claimed the top spot, with some 8 million more participants than skateboarding, which is No. 2. Inline skating knows no gender bounds -- 51 percent of participants are female.
