MANILA - The Philippines unemployment rate inched up to 10.9 percent in October from a year ago as more people failed to find work due to a moribund economy, the government said yesterday.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) said a total of 3.88 million Filipinos were jobless in October, compared to 3.56 million in the same period last year.

In October 2003, the unemployment rate was 10.2 percent.
