A BORDERS team could be playing in Europe for the next decade - but it will not be the SRU-backed professional side based at Netherdale.
That is the forecast from the outspoken former Hawick coach Ian Barnes, who has watched in horror as rugby in the area has subsided into something close to mediocrity.
With the Borders pro side on dying legs - there is persistent speculation that the SRU will pull the plug at the end of this season - there will soon be a massive gap in the game's Scottish heartland.
