Children around Wales are being urged to put down their computer games and sign up for a 'cooler sport for the brain' - chess. National Chess Week takes place in the New Year (January 24-30) and children's charity Barnardo's is encouraging young people to out think their opponents on the chess board, rather than on the computer screen.

The charity's director in Wales, Raymond Ciborowski, said, 'In this hi-tech era it's good for children to get a chance to really use their brain power.'
