An activist group has issued a news release suggesting that ammonia readings near some hog production facilities in Iowa are being measured at rates exceeding the standard set by an air quality study. State regulators said while the ammonia readings included in the news release might be accurate, they may not be scientifically meaningful.
Iowa Citizens for Community improvement (ICCI), a frequent critic of large livestock operations, said Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) records show that hourly averages of ammonia near three Iowa Select Farms facilities in the north central part of the state include readings as high as 1,751 parts per billion, ...
