Every year at this time, publishers urge readers to take a break from reality with heartwarming Christmas stories that aim to deliver that feel-good spirit we got years ago watching The Waltons. The characters may face adversity, but we know everything will end up as warm and fuzzy as a new pair of slippers.
Some scoff at such fare. But hey, it's the holiday season; we're allowed to devour a little sentiment along with our gingerbread cookies and eggnog.
