Chador Malu iron ore deposit is located in central Iran, some 180 km north-east of the city of Yazd. It will be the third large iron ore deposit to be mined in Iran, when it comes into operation in three or four years' time.
The first deposit, which was developed about 20 years ago, is now the Chogart iron ore mine. This supplies feed to the Esfahan Steel Complex, which is based on blast furnace operation. The second deposit is Gol-e-Gohar (Mining Magazine, August 1990, pp 102-104) which will come into operation at the end of this year with a capacity of 2.75 Mt/y of iron ore concentrates, suitable for using in direct reduction systems.
